Departing from your hotel at 9.00am till evening 5.30pm you explore Trinidad Highlights & Yerette as we make our way through downtown Port of Spain taking in the Parliament, Supreme Court, shopping streets and the city's bustling centre, Independence Square. Heading out of town we view the Queens Park Savannah, a 200-acre recreational park lined with exotic trees and interesting colonial-style mansions with amazing architectural designs. The drive leads us through the residential areas of St. Clair and Maraval close to the capital, Port of Spain, before continuing up to the scenic North Coast Road we enjoy spectacular views of the Paramin Hills, rainforest-covered Northern Range Mountains and the Caribbean Sea with plenty of opportunities for photographs. Upon arriving at Maracas Bay a beautiful palm-fringed beach backed by verdant mountains. Here you can swim, take a walk along the beach, or just relax at one of the beach huts for a cool drink and a Bake & Shark, a hot crispy shark sandwich with homemade bread. We then follow the Saddle Road through the Santa Cruz valley, the scenery changes from colourful market streets to lush agricultural valleys with cocoa and coffee plantations to our final destination Yerette which is an Amerindian word for hummingbird. It was chosen above Iere which means Land of the Hummingbird. Yevette is home to 13 of the 16 species of hummingbird in Trinidad. We are taken to a private home in a lush green valley, where we see an incredible amount of tiny hummingbirds in the colourful garden and from the feeders. You will be surrounded by those magical creatures! The viewing of the live hummingbirds is followed by a video session on the habits and haunts of the 13 species found at the Yerette. This includes their courting and nesting habits. It should be noted that the tiny nests of the hummingbird - most the size of a thimble - are held together by spiders web. In the final session of the tour, our friendly host displays the photo gallery of the birds, you will see feathery details you never knew existed.
