Dyrhólaey Nature Reserve

Vik
Dyrhólaey promontory is 120 meters high ans has been a natural reserve since 1978. The name Dyrhólaey literally means „door hole“ and the name comes from the large arch that has been eroded from headland by the sea. During calm weather and sea conditions boats can sail through the arch. It is believed that Dyrhólaey was created by a submarine volcanic eruption late in the Ice Age. Be careful when walking around the area and getting too close to the cliff edges as land slides are known to occur there. Also note that the promontory area is closed during the spring time due to nesting season.

Skaftafell National Park

Vik
Skaftafell National Park is located by the roots of Iceland largest glacier Vatnajokull and once there you will witness plenty of its outlet glaciers cascading to the lowland, all with different names and characters.
